Greetings from the PTA

Dear Lakeview Families,

On behalf of the entire Lakeview PTA Executive Board, we hope that 2019 has gotten off to a GREAT start! This new year has brought with it some extremely important issues for students, parents, and teachers with the current Texas Legislative session in full swing. The top issues being addressed in Northwest ISD in collaboration with the Texas PTA are:
1. Public School Funding Reform
2. Safety and Security
3. Academic Accountability
4. Transportation

Over the past decade, the state has continually decreased its share of public education funding to a state average less than 40%, allowing rising local property taxes to fill the gap.  In Northwest ISD, our tax dollars make up 85% of our school funding, with only 15% state funding!  It’s time to create a funding system that equitably supports all students and relies on statewide funding sources rather than local property taxes.  Your state legislatures need to hear from YOU!  Read more about our NISD Legislative Priorities here and Texas PTA Legislative Priorities hereWe encourage you to make your voice heard!  Click here for our local legislatures' contact info.

Warm Regards,

Ann DeCapite
Lakeview PTA President

Arts and Education

Congratulations to all our fine artists that were recognized at the Northwest ISD Reflections Gala that took place last month!

We are pleased to announce that Emery Hunter's Reflections entry, My Dad is my Hero, has advanced to state-level judging! This is a wonderful achievement as nearly 60,000 students participate in the program annually and less than 3% of those advance to Texas PTA. Final results will be announced on March 15 via the Texas PTA website.  Congratulations Emery!

Duru Toyoglu's Reflections entry took the 3rd Place award in Dance Choreography!  All remaining students received an honorable mention at the Northwest District level.

Please take some time to view our students' wonderful works of art up at the school in the Refections Showcase!

Thank you to all the students who participated in the PTA Art Reflections Program
